More weekend trips this year!

Welcome back!

Theatre Club have even more weekend trips to children's theatre planned for this school year.

We are forging great links with the Unicorn Theatre in London Bridge. As we have reserved 30 seats in advance for four shows per term up to Easter, all shows (including Christmas ones) will be just £7.50. Adult ticket prices are usually £16 for adults and £10 for children (£22 and £15 respectively for Christmas shows) so these are a real bargain.

We have two trips to the Unicorn planned for this half of term both on Sunday 20th October.

The first (for ages 4 plus) is at 11am to Dora, the Storer (not Explorer)! This play, based on the book by Helen East, is about a lady who hoards things but learns the pleasure of giving. Directed by Purni Morell, Artistic Director at the Unicorn, there will be an insight session after the play, giving children a chance to meet the cast and director and ask questions.

The Unicorn recently sent a message to pass on to the audience:

Dora is a show about a lady who can’t throw anything away, but who realises that although letting go of things can be hard but that sometimes giving something away can bring even more happiness. So, we're inviting every young audience member to bring a toy (or an object they no longer play with) to donate to Dora's local jumble sale on their visit to the theatre (it can be something broken that was going to be thrown away). Do you think this would be possible for the children attending? They won't leave empty-handed, as they’ll also get the chance to choose their very own piece of jumble to take home at the end of the show.

The second (recommended for ages 8 plus) is at 2pm to Henry the Fifth, a modern English adaptation of Shakespeare's Play. The same writer was behind the successful adaptation of a Winter's Tale last year and the play comes highly recommended as a "must see" from our contacts at the Unicorn and the NT. It focusses on a king who is running out of money and decides to invade his neighbour. The terrible war that ensues makes him wonder whether getting into the fight is really worth all the mess it leaves behind.

We hope to have letters out early next week.

We have 30 seats at £7.50 for each show reserved and these will be available on a first come, first served basis. Deadline for payment to the office with slip is Friday 13th September. To ensure your seats, please hand them in asap!

Finally please can we also remind parents of children taking part in this year's first production, a Midsummer Night's Dream, that we need the (heavily subsidised by the SSF so great value) £40 fee by the same date - Friday 13th September.

Thank you!
